Five word poem challenge
Friday 5 challenge. A challenge to write a poem out of the 5 random words.
Just a little tidbit…
When I first decided to try my hand at writing a novel, I originally decided on just a sci-fi novel. But something happens when you start writing, your characters seem to become more real, more flesh and bone. You start to feel like you know each of them intimately and so this realization sort of changed my direction for the book.
If this old barn could speak…
Just imagine if this old barn could speak. It could tell us all it knows.
Future Story Ideas
As a writer, it is good to keep a log or a small book that you can write future story ideas in. Something that you can keep handy when you need to start a new book.
Writing Prompts
Writing prompts are great. I particularly like the ones that give you three or so words and you must write a short story or vignette with them.
Music and My Writing Process
I think using music during the writing process is different for everyone. For me there are a few different types of music depending on what I am writing.
Reflections on Writing - Don’t Fear Change
From the time you write the first word to the time your book is submitted to be published; your creation is going to change. There is always a first draft, and that first draft never makes it to publication.
Reflections on Writing - Enjoy
It is my hope that you are writing out of passion and for enjoyment. Your passion for your work, for your characters and for your story will come through and be picked up by the reader. And there must be enjoyment in the endeavor.
Reflections on Writing - Research
You have to know what you are writing about. Sci-fi requires technical knowledge. Fantasy requires antiquity knowledge. Even a children’s book with animals requires a basic knowledge of the animals included in the story.
Reflections on Writing - Plan
You have to have a plan. It is more important to know the ending than to know the beginning. The beginning can always be adapted, modified or changed. But the ending is where you are heading.
Reflections on Writing - Write
You have to write. Thinking about writing, developing a plan about writing, talking about writing or dreaming about writing is important. However, putting pen to paper is the only way to complete a book.
