5 Books That Left an Impression-Book 5
Book 5: Halo, Contact Harvest - Joseph StatenSaved the best for last? Maybe not the best Pulitzer Prize winning book per se. However, this is a list of books that left an impression on me and is highly consequential to my personal tastes and opinions! I chose this book, not necessarily because it is the best book of the series (The Cole Protocol is very good also) but because it is a great book in the storyline of the Halo saga and universe.

Book 4: The Last Grain Race - Eric Newby.
I love Clipper ships. I always have. We have a room in our house that is primarily decorated by Clipper ship paintings that I call the Clipper room. I like all large sailing vessels of any type. We were fortunate enough to visit Norfolk in 2000 when OpSail stopped there as part of the grand maritime celebration. You could walk the decks of the large sailing vessels from all over the world.

Book 3: Across the Fence: The Secret War in Vietnam - John Stryker MeyerMy dad was a fan of the classic war movies and TV shows. Whenever Baa Baa Black Sheep (renamed Black Sheep Squadron for Season 2) aired he would have it on. He was also a fan of the original Midway (1976) movie and just about any World War II movie starring John Wayne. Did you know Erik Estrada (of CHiPs [1977 – 1983] fame) and Tom Selleck (Magnum P.I. [1980 – 1988] and Blue Bloods [2005 – 2015] fame) were in the 1976 Midway movie? You could bet if there were reruns from Combat! (1962 - 1967) or The World at War (1973) series, they would be on. And I sincerely believe that by the time I graduated High School, I had seen every episode of M.A.S.H. (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) (1972 - 1983) at least three times!

Book 2: The Medusa and the Snail: More Notes of a Biology Watcher - Lewis Thomas
As I mentioned earlier, my diversity of reading genres and subjects is as varied as my music playlist. And this definitely falls into that category. Lewis Thomas (November 25, 1913 - December 3, 1993) was an etymologist and essayist. He was invited to write regular essays for the New England Journal of Medicine.
5 Books That Left an Impression-Book 1
Growing up, the Dungeons and Dragons board game was very popular. However, owning or playing that game was not allowed in our household. So my exposure as a kid was very limited in the fantasy genre. Primarily my exposure was through J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. And as I discussed in my previous blog post, I was not really an avid reader when I was young so that exposure was mainly through watching the animated movie. I loved dragons though.
Up a creek…
“Up a Creek…”, a short story written from a 5-word prompt.
"C'mon you piece of crap!" Lance yelled as he slapped the transponder once again with his gloved hand. He knew he was going to have to get it up and going again. If he didn't, he wouldn't see the next day as he would slowly freeze to death on this frozen ice world.

These Hands
These Hands
Right extended in air
Sworn to serve and protect
What have they done
Where have they gone
Trained to fit the trigger
Squeezed round of devastation…
