J. S. Clawson

J. Scott Clawson resides on beautiful Gwynn’s Island, VA where he and his wife, Angie, raised their family. Scott is a US Army Veteran and by trade a Diesel Engineer. He has lived most of his life in Virginia but was fortunate to briefly live in Germany and traveled throughout Europe. His European travels created lasting memories which inspires his creativity.

Scott’s love for stories is undeniable. Living on a small island has given him the freedom to spend many hours watching, and taking photographs of, the wildlife in his garden, on the beach and in the wetlands.  This led him to naturally begin writing stories about the whimsical wildlife world around him. It is important to Scott that his books be fantastical and fun so that all children will be drawn to them.

The influence of Scott’s travels and his love of nature are displayed in his poems. Many of his poems reflects his fascination with the era of the Clipper Ships and lure of the sea.  The beauty of Autumn, with its colorful displays, is another theme found amongst his poetry.

Besides his passion for writing, Scott is an avid photographer, capturing any nature and architecture he encounters.  He also shares the love of gardening, cooking and entertaining with his wife. Scott, Angie and their spoiled travel cat, Elsa, travel as often as they can in their RV throughout the US and Canada.

Scott has found a great partner in illustrator, Helena Carvel. Helena pours her heart and soul into every illustration and has brought his characters to life. The two are collaborating on Scott’s The Hawk and the Hummingbird® book series.
