“The Hummingbird and the Hawk and the Hurricane is an amazing book. The repeats of things like the color red and word "peculiar" add character and color to the well written story. The different characters in the book each have their own unique personality. Like the owl, for instance, is a sneaky friend who cheats at cards. This is a funny and great concept. The book does indeed have a rising climax and several conflicts. For example, Ruby, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, is determined to find his friend, Red, the hawk, while also trying not to get distracted. This is a great example of self-conflict. I think this is a well written, sweet book and would recommend it to kids from 3rd grade and down, kids will listen with great excitement as Ruby searches for Red, who can't be found anywhere. I think they will love the characters and the plot. Overall, I think The Hummingbird and The Hawk and The Hurricane is an amazing book for elementary kids.”
